The Earlybird blog by Amerisleep has officially released the groundbreaking results of a study that included 2,007 participants across the United States. This study included men and women from various careers and regions of the country and has yielded an in-depth look into “America’s Most Common Recurring Dreams”.

The study unveiled the recurring dreams in Americans: 53.5% reported falling as the top recurring dream, making it the top response. Other top five responses included being chased (50.9%), being back in school (37.9%), being unprepared for a test or important event (34%), and flying (32.6%). Survey participants also indicated dreams about mortality, their teeth falling out, being lost, going nowhere or moving in slow motion, being late or missing a bus/train/plane, or being paralyzed or unable to speak as common recurring dreams.

Furthermore, the recent study found that recurring dreams can begin at any time in life, although 38.8% of survey participants indicated that their recurring dreams started in childhood. When it comes to jobs, the study found that one’s profession can be linked to the types of recurring dreams they have. 73.9% of people working in telecommunications were found to have recurring dreams about falling, while 46.2% of firemen, paramedics, and security personnel reported having dreams about being able to fly. 73% of people who worked in transportation, driving, or warehousing reported dreams about being chased, and 57.7% of those working in marketing, advertising, and promotion had recurring dreams about being unprepared for a test.

The Earlybird blog’s study on America’s most common recurring studied whether or not geography has anything to do with dream patterns but found that most regions reported similar finding. Falling is the top recurring dream everywhere except for in the Midwest, where it ranks second.

The study’s participants were asked about their sleep habits: most people were found to go to bed between 10-11pm, and most reported getting 6-7 hours per sleep each night. Before going to bed, 44.8% of respondents use a computer or their phone; 32.9% watch television; and 12.6% read a book.

The “America’s Most Common Recurring Dreams” study found that Americans have specific dreaming habits, with most people saying their dreams are very realistic, and when asked, most respondents felt the purpose of dreams is to express inner fears or anxieties. The study went further by examining gender and found that women are more likely to remember their dreams as opposed to men. Women are far more likely to dream about spiders, snakes, and other creatures, while men are more likely to dream about meeting strangers or finding money.
