KNORK Eco - A COMPOSTABLE ALTERNATIVE TO PLASTIC UTENSILS
Say Hello to KNORK Eco

Wichita, KS – May 10, 2019 – KNORK was originally founded with the intention of creating a hand-forged line of stainless steel flatware with an improved design and functionality, made for how people naturally eat.

Our customers have been requesting a more sustainable and earth-conscious option from the brand. We wanted something durable enough to maintain the KNORK design integrity, but more environmentally friendly than regular plastic- which could potentially sit in a landfill for eons before degrading or breaking down. Today, the majority of the plastic that we throw into landfills finds its way into our oceans, disrupting marine life and the delicate balance of the aquatic ecosystem.

Knork’s VP of Marketing stumbled upon an interview in a trade publication highlighting Bamboozle and the Astrik material last year. “Right away you could see they were doing something completely unique to the ‘alternatives to plastic’ product space,” explains Lacy Eck VP of Marketing.  “The durability and resiliency of their mixing bowl set and the functionality incorporated within the design, PLUS the earth-friendly features it possessed (fully plant based, compostability within 2 years, dishwasher safe + microwave safe…) it was clear, we needed to reach out to see if they could bring Knork Eco to life.”

First round prototype samples of Knork Eco astrik showed up just a few months after our first email and phone calls – they pretty well nailed the design, and the material was remarkable.  We met the entire Method team a few weeks later, and immediately forged both a quick friendship–business senses and personalities aligned perfectly—and it was the beginning of a harmonious partnership.

KNORK Eco launched on Kickstarter late March – it became fully funded in 10 days, and the campaign ended May 4th with over 1060 backers!  Astrik is both microwave safe and biodegradable in 2 years and is composed of PLA made 100% from plant starches and bamboo fiber.  This eco-friendly and responsibly sourced material provides a workable, multi-functional + sustainable alternative to one-use plastic utensils. The full concept start to finish (packaging included) is Bio-degradable by design – and made to withstand hundreds, if not thousands, of washes. The idea is that the pieces will last almost a year with use and reuse – then to return to nature.

We are launching the to-go ware in two SKU, which includes a 6 piece Knork Eco astrik Plant-Based Utensils Pack and an 8 + 1 Piece Knork Eco astrik utensils  + astrik Carrying Case (that holds  both Knork stainless and eco pieces).  These items are set to ship to customers this summer and available for pre-order at: https://eco.knork.net
