GO Laser Tag London, a leading laser tag company based in the UK, surveyed a range of activities to establish which were the most popular and useful for work-based team building. Below, you’ll find which ones received enough votes to make it into the top five.

Team building is a crucial aspect of any business, providing a platform to enhance employee relationships and improve employee retention, communication and the ability to work effectively as a team, all of which are essential for businesses to succeed.

Go Laser Tag London surveyed employees to find out which team building activity they felt would genuinely benefit them in regards to gaining and improving the above-mentioned skills. The top five choices were as follows:

• Paintball
• Problem-Solving Games
• Laser Tag
• Nights Out/Work Party
• Adrenaline Activities (Zorbing, etc.)

The results demonstrate that today’s employees differ in regards to what they feel is best for team building. For example, some think that competitive combat-style sports such as laser tag and paintball will help employees blow off steam and embrace team tactics. Others, however, opted for problem-solving games where logic, planning, and teamwork are essential. And of course, nights out and work parties were always going to be among the most popular, as some employees just prefer to enjoy each other’s company over a cold pint.

Tommy Pemberton, Founder of GO Laser Tag and who commissioned the survey, said: “It’s not surprising to see nights out among the most popular team-building activities, but it’s clear that more employees and employers are seeing the value in laser tag and paintball days out as a way to build morale. Games such as these require strategy, teamwork and communication – and, of course, they offer plenty of fun.”

What do the results mean for businesses? In short, they show which activities people should invest in to keep their staff happy and to allow them to connect with one another – and so improve their day-to-day work lives.

Tommy also went on to say that: “As workplace happiness becomes more vital to employers looking to retain the best staff, and as the talent pool becomes increasingly competitive, we expect games and activities that allow employees to build on vital skills and have an enjoyable time to become more popular.”
